Short-term efficacy observation of β-carotene capsules in the treatment of summer dermatitis

Abstract Objective To observe the effect of β-carotene capsules in the treatment of summer dermatitis. Methods The treatment group took 4 β-carotene capsules orally, 3 times/d, for 1 week. The control group applied antipruritic lotion (containing camphor and menthol) externally to the affected area twice daily for 1 week. Results In the treatment group of 50 cases, 35 cases were cured, 8 cases were significantly effective, 5 cases were effective, and 2 cases were ineffective, with a total effective rate of 86%. Conclusion β-carotene capsules are significantly more effective in treating summer dermatitis than the control group (P<0.01).
