Wuhan Xingchen Modern Biological Engineering Co., Ltd. is a high-tech enterprise jointly invested by the three shareholders of Wuhan Xingyu Food Technology Co., Ltd., Wuhan Institute of Virology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Jiangsu Institute of Microbiology.
The company is located at No. 76, Shendun Fifth Road, Donghu New Technology Development Zone, Wuhan City, Hubei Province, a national development zone. It has bioengineering technology for the production of β-carotene by fermentation that has reached the industrial level. This technology project is highly valued by the country. It is not only a national "Eighth Five-Year" and "Ninth Five-Year" key scientific and technological research project, but also a national torch plan project (1998), which aims to promote the naturalization and localization of β-carotene. In November 2000, the Ministry of Science and Technology of China passed the acceptance of the "Ninth Five-Year Plan" project for the industrialization of β-carotene production by fermentation.
